Kelly Tsai is a New York-based singer, songwriter, and producer, pairing introspective lyricism with experimental production.
Born in Chicago, she has toured worldwide as a spoken word poet featuring at over 700 venues including the White House (under Obama), Apollo Theater in Harlem, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, and three seasons of HBO’s “Def Poetry.” As an interdisciplinary artist, she has collaborated with producers, musicians, composers, dancers, theater artists, animators, and filmmakers to create a wide range of award-winning works that have been presented at the Brooklyn Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, and internationally at film festivals and art exhibitions. In 2007 and 2010, Kelly worked with Berlin-based producer Black Cracker to create two spoken word electronic music albums, Infinity Breaks and Further She Wrote. In 2016, Kelly started producing and mixing her own tracks and songwriting. Her music draws from the soulful and subconscious to explore new emotional terrain in avant-pop, art pop, electronica, and alternative R&B. In 2019, she is releasing four instrumental tracks and her upcoming EP Villain.
