Born in Sydney, Australia, Mark John McEncroe commenced music studies in his adulthood. Initially a piano student, he quickly realized it was composition that he was drawn to, and developed his composition skills and music theory with prominent music educator and composer Margaret Brandman.
McEncroe writes primarily for piano, and also orchestra, having collaborated over many years with orchestrator/composer Mark J Saliba. Saliba has orchestrated from McEncroe’s piano score reductions.
McEncroe’s piano works have been recorded by Australian pianists Van-Anh Nguyen, John Martin and Helen Kennedy, and Japanese-American pianist Yoko Hagino.
His Symphonic Suites and Poems have been recorded by the Janacek Philharmonic in the Czech Republic, conducted by American, Anthony Armore.
Selections of his repertoire have been performed in Europe with The Janacek Philharmonic, The Zagreb Philharmonic and The Russe Philharmonic.
In February 2020, "Dance of The Pagans" and "Storm Clouds Approaching" were specially orchestrated and performed at Carnegie Hall, New York.
Much of McEncroe’s repertoire is released through Parma Recordings, USA, on the Navona Label, and his
music is published by Wirripang – Home of Australian Composers.
