It wasn’t until her last year of college in New York City that Teen Idle came to be. In July 2018, Sara challenged herself to write a song every day for a week and posted the final result to bandcamp. This songwriting project led her to keep writing songs pretty intensely, with the goal being to create songs much bigger sounding than the bedroom they were written in.
Inspired by a long list of things—from the guitar work of Lindsey Buckingham to ‘60s heartbreak ballads to '90s grunge—Teen Idle combines pop sensibility with grittiness and a certain dreaminess. Sara is also influenced by the literary and cinematic tradition of her Middle-Eastern heritage and hopes the poeticism of those old films and stories comes through in her lyrics.
